I am back from my vacation and yes it was wonderful. I was looking back at simpleX and thought I might just do some updates. I have been concerned with few CSS and mainly Trackbacks and Comments. I have been getting a few trackbacks and it just didn’t look good when both trackbacks and comments are in the same place. I have seen a lot of blogs where it makes it look ugly.
So, today, I went back and separated trackbacks from comments. I have used a small jQuery function and I hope it works okay with all browsers. I have done a quick testing and looks like they work okay.
Please get the latest version and let me know how it works out for you guys.

Hi, I love your theme! I use it myself.
I am trying to use it for a WPMU installation at work, but I cannot get the comment parts of the files to work. It is constantly complaining about missing, or redeclared functions.
Any idea on what to do?

good theme! But there are a few problems with the usability.
1. If you have a post with 1 comment and 1 trackback, the mark under the post is “Comments (2)” which confuses the readers, because they see only 1 comment!
2. Trackbacks are the blood of the internet. They push you up in google. And Users link to your blog more likely, if their trackbacks are shown directly on your page. In your theme the trackbacks will only appear, when the reader pushes the button “trackbacks”. This is in my opinion not optimal. The trackbacks should directly placed and seen under the blog-post, but seperate to the comments and seperatly count. Look the best way in my opinion in a example here: http://www.nerdcore.de/wp/2009/02/10/dude/ -> there are comments and trackbacks both directly shown but seperate.
3. The next thing is the permalink. In the index-page the post-titles are linked, but not in the single page! But most users come to a blog via google – and this direct them in most cases to a single blog-post. When they like the post, how could the link to it, when the blog title is not linked with a permalink? So it should be linked in the single-page too.

Oh, I forgot another thing to say:
In my opinion the theme-options have a high price. The most important color-variables are no longer available in the main style.css, they are seperated in default.css, autumn.css and wordpress.css. But these css-files are not shown on the admin-theme-edit-page!!!!!!
So what to do, if I don’t like the default-, autumn- and either wordpress-color-theme? I must download one of the css-file and edit it with a text-editor and then upload it again to the webspace. This sucks! Sorry, but I must they this, because the customizability of many good themes is in fact destroyed with theme-options that are based on seperate css-files, which not could be edited through the admin-page.
Thanks Torsten for your feedback. This is my first theme as well as free theme. I do not claim this is the best theme for your needs. You can always customize it to your needs. I will look into how I can improve on this theme on the next version taking into account your and a lot of users views.
The concept of theme-options is to choose between any ‘default’ given color scheme and for beginners who do not want to play around with CSS. By putting everything on the main page, it was just too long and a 1000+ lines of CSS code was not easy to debug when you want to change colors. So, I tried to separate color styles to one file/folder. But wordpress doesn’t recognize the files inside the folder from admin section. Perhaps you may want to give them a suggestion? Because I feel that putting a lot of CSS files outside doesn’t look clean. Yep, and if you want to customize you will have to download the file and upload it again for this version.
Like I said, I will try to improve the them on all aspects on my next version.

Of course, you have not claim, that this is the best theme around. But in fact it is real great for a free wordpress theme of a man, who just wants to play around and learn, how to make wordpress themes. That’s why I write the two comments, not for criticism, but to help to make it more better. The things I say in the first comment are more important, but I think I can customize them by myself. Of course it’s also a question of individual opinions. So I will thankful use your theme and customize it to my needs, as you said so. Good luck and success again for your work on that and maybe some other themes!

First, thanks for developing such a clean and usable theme. I’m playing around with it right now and have come upon a problem with the Search box appearing in the center of the header in IE 6.0 and later. This is does not occur in Firefox (currently running 3.0.6). I am running SimpleX 1.3.1 on WP 2.7.1. Since I didn’t see this issue raised in the WP support forum, I thought I would check with you to see if you have any insight.

I really love your theme..I made some changes to your theme to fit my logo style…I have question? Is there any chance to get 2nd sidebar on the left? 125×125 plug in shows 1 column, but not 2 …Is there anything I can do to adjust?

I love your theme, but I have a problem. I had version 1.3, and had customized it quite a bit. WP suggested that I upgrade to your newest version, 1.3.1. I did, and now all of my customization has been undone. How do I go back to the earlier version? I spent hours customizing it. Thanks.

I did find a backup that I was able to restore from. But in the future, a note about backups could be useful. There was nothing in the upgrade information to lead anyone to believe that the index.php, page.php, header.php, style.css, etc. would actually be replaced.

Hello Chandra – First, thanks for the great SimpleX theme! I am trying to add meta tags to the first page only. I can’t seem to find the tags to do so, yet when I view the source in the web browser I can see there is the noindex, nofollow already there. Can you tell me how to access the page that this on it: meta name=’robots’ content=’noindex,nofollow’ ?

Thanks for the theme – I really like the ease & simplicity. I’m using it to create my brother’s wedding website, and really liked the pages ability for that use. However, I’ve been having problems with allowing comments on the sub pages – for example, on your About and Themes page on this site, there is no area for comments to be left, even though in the ‘edit’ section you can ‘allow’ comments. If you go to my website, helenandkeith.com, to the RSVP and Guestbook sections, you can see that there is no where available for people to leave comments, and that would be really helpful on a subpage.

This is something I have been wondering as well.. I tried doing that on my about/themes page but haven’t been able to find why its not showing the comments on the pages. I am using the default template and only changing CSS in most cases so I wonder if I have missed a code on the page.php or something. It would be great if someone could come up with an answer to this. I will also look at the issue and let you know if I can find it.

Lovely, lovely theme! But I’m having the following problem: I’m trying to left-align the column and the style.css isn’t recognizing the float: left code. I’m wondering if there’s some relationship between the style.css and the default.css which is prohibiting the change from registering.
Any ideas about how I can get the column to align to the left?

default.css is mainly like a color palette. style.css is like a framework. You can simply put float: left or text-align:left on the style.css (in the column style).
I’m using SimpleX on a blog, and I found the recent comments widgets to not be styled. I tried to style it as the rest of the theme, and here is what I added in the bottom of style.css:
#sidebar li.recentcomments {
padding: 3pt;
}
#sidebar li.recentcomments a {
background-image: none;
}

On your header.php, you need to exclude the pages your want.
< ?php wp_list_pages('title_li=&exclude=1,2,3'); ?>where 1,2,3 are page IDs.

I’m new to wordpress so forgive me if this is a simple question. I understand widgets, but how do I add widgets to this theme? I love the theme and I can’t find another one I like better, but I’d like to add widgets (fb, twitter, etc) and can’t figure that out.

hi. nice theme. im trying to set background colors to the main colunm (content), and to the sidebar colunm. with full fill. but the backcolor in sidebar works only in a part area. how can i plus the margin-left to the sidebar and divide the layout in two master coluns, with full fill widths? (content and sidebar)? i hope im clear in my question… sorry for my english.
