I am back from my vacation and yes it was wonderful. I was looking back at simpleX and thought I might just do some updates. I have been concerned with few CSS and mainly Trackbacks and Comments. I have been getting a few trackbacks and it just didn’t look good when both trackbacks and comments are in the same place. I have seen a lot of blogs where it makes it look ugly.

I hope you all had a great Christmas / New Year break. As I am looking over WordPress stats, I am amazed by how popular simpleX has become. It started out as a learning experience giving taking simple as the keyword. There was nothing fancy with the theme but I am happy that people liked it. There has been a total of over 5000 downloads today in just over a month.

simpleX, as the name suggests, is a simple, clean and minimalist WordPress theme.
Yesterday
This theme is my first official WordPress theme. I created this theme to learn (at first place) and only by changing the default WordPress CSS style. But as it developed, I had few things that I wanted to change. Then I tweaked the codes at a few places. I released simpleX 1.0 and listed out at official WordPress theme page on December 1, 2008. I was surprised at the statistics WordPress provided. Because of the overwhelming response and listed as top 20 themes at WordPress, I was inspired to make updates to it.

It now supports WordPress 2.7+ and commented threads. This site is also using simpleX so you are already previewing the theme. Please feel free to browse around and download the theme if you like it.

Future is always uncertain, as they say. I am not sure what I will do with simpleX in future. I have a few ideas in mind but again, I want to develop few other themes. If there is a significant amount of response with simpleX, I will keep on updating it otherwise, I will call it a theme and move on with other cool themes. Nevertheless, feel free to ask questions, give suggestions or post comments about simpleX on the comments section.

simpleX crosses 1000 downloads and listed top 20 themes!

SimpleX, a 10 day old theme, now has been downloaded more than 1000 times (to my surprise!). Its getting an average rating of 4 which is not bad I guess. Its also now listed as top 20 themes on WordPress website which is again something to be proud of! I can’t wait for the updated version to be listed over at WordPress. I don’t know what is taking so long for those guys. Perhaps the 2.7 upgrade. Anyway, I look forward to some of your suggestions and comments on this site as well. Thank you all!

Seems like simpleX is getting popular by day. It has now climbed up the charts and is within top 30 themes at WordPress.org. I can’t wait for people to know about the new cool updated version with better typography and better interface and of course organized files for designers. I am hoping this update will boost the downloads further.

SimpleX theme now comes with a cleaner code. Since 1.2 release yesterday, I took sometime to clean the codes so it is much easier to customize if anyone needs to. SimpleX is now passed the xHTML and CSS validation. There is a separate CSS sheet for IE6/7. IE 8 Beta 2 seems to work well with the normal CSS (what a relief, IE no more seems to need hacks). It has been now tested with IE6, IE7, IE8 Beta 2, FF2, FF3, Safari 3.2 and Chrome 0.4.

Saturday, December 6th, 2008As I have been following the downloads charts at the official WordPress theme site, simpleX is now at top 40 downloads and is approaching its first 500 downloads as I write this. This has really been an inspiration to me. I am working to update simpleX so users can choose colors to adjust as per their need. This should be a great leap as an update.

I am pleased to announce that simpleX theme has now been listed as one of the officially approved theme on WordPress website. And as of this posting there have been a total of 51 downloads already. Wow! I am so thankful to everyone who have previewed this simple theme (my first theme). I would appreciate a lot if I get some feedback or even suggestions on how to make this theme even better (yep! all of you pros! ).

simpleX is now version 1.1. The page level (menu) has been fixed so now you can add sub pages without a glitch. Here you can see 4 levels of menu.

UPDATE: Its now version 1.2.1 and tested with WordPress 2.7. Please download the new version. Also see Update Notes 1.2 and 1.2.1.
As mentioned in my earlier post, I have fixed a few bugs and I guess its now ready for release. There might be some issues but I will only know that when you can provide me some feedback. As I told you, this is not a perfect theme. I am just using this opportunity to learn to make WordPress themes. But, this theme is definitely usable if you are looking for clean, elegant design. Nothing complex!
